Preview: Round 2 - Oulton Park

Fresh from the opening round a few weeks ago in Spain, the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad team has been in action this week (Wednesday and Thursday) for a two-day official British Superbike Championship test, ahead of the first UK round of the 2024 season this Bank Holiday weekend (4-6 May).

The vital two-day test provided Faye Ho’s squad with much-needed track time, as the team worked to fine-tune the BMW M 1000 RR Superbike machines, where both Josh Brookes and Peter Hickman enjoyed a positive test at the fast and technical 2.6-mile circuit.

With strong performances from both riders, Josh finished the two days eighth on combined times posting his quickest time of 1:34.737, while Peter was ninth, his fastest time 1:34.737.

Bennetts British Superbike Championship action kicks off tomorrow Saturday 4 May, with FP1 at 12.45. Qualifying and the opening race of the weekend takes place on Sunday (5 May), with two races on Bank Holiday Monday (6 May). Click here for the full weekend schedule.

"The two-day test at Oulton has been positive, we've ended up eighth overall, which doesn't look amazing but just in myself I feel like we're in an area of fine tuning now, if we were half a second quicker we'd be right there in the times. But what is positive is that I feel like I can race this bike and push it. It's given me more feedback and I'm in an area of fine tuning adjustments and not throwing stuff at it and seeing what works. I feel like we're ready to start a race weekend and hopefully we can refine it a little further this weekend. I don't think there's big steps to make and I also don't think others have big steps to make either, so I don't feel like we have to make a big step we can just make some fine adjustments and it'll be enough."

"On Wednesday we had a good day, I felt comfortable, the BMW is working how we want it to and we’re learning off what we learnt at Navarra. I felt happy and I was one of the few riders in the 34s, which was good, and we ended day one sixth overall. We had some ideas to try yesterday, but unfortunately the day’s progress was disrupted early on after I crashed at turn 1. It was a big one, at over 100mph, I got tangled with the bike, but thankfully I am okay, a little battered but I’ll be good for the weekend. The boys did a great job getting the BMW back together, and we were able to get out in the final session, get a few laps in and I wasn’t a million miles off. I feel fast and confident for the weekend and looking forward to getting started in FP1 tomorrow."
