Preview: Round 1 - Navarra

The FHO Racing BMW Motorrad team have wrapped up pre-season testing and are now looking ahead to this weekend (20-21 April) for the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Navarra in Spain.

A new circuit to the British Superbike race calendar for the 2024 season, Circuito de Navarra is located in the northwest of Spain. At 2.426 miles long, the main configuration offers a combination of fast, slow and technical sections.

Arriving at the circuit for the first time earlier in the week, Josh Brookes and Peter Hickman quickly got to grips with the track aboard their BMW M 1000 RR machines. With over 350 laps completed across the 2.5-day test, Faye Ho’s squad worked through various settings as both the riders and the team learned the characteristics of a new circuit.

Wrapping up pre-season testing, Josh was seventh on combined times with a best time of 1:37.022, while teammate Peter was 11th with a time of 1:37.166.

The FHO Racing BMW Motorrad team will now look forward to the first practice session of the 2024 season, which takes place on Saturday 20 April at 10.50 local time (BST +1).

"After the last few days I feel like we're in a good position with the BMW and I'm comfortable to start first practice with the set-up we have now, where I think we should be somewhere close to being competitive. It will be interesting to see how that compares to our rivals when we're focussing on race distances; we may not have done a single lap as quick as some others have achieved, but I'd like to hope we can be stronger across a race distance."

"Day one of the test was really positive, neither myself, Josh or the team have been here before and we made some really good progress and ended up eighth. Yesterday we tried a load of different things, which didn't work , so yesterday was a bad day! It wasn't the day we wanted but we learnt what did and didn't work, which is what testing is about even if it's frustrating at the time. We've learnt off that and gone in a different direction today which proved to be the right direction as we went a lot faster straight away. Overall I'm happy, I did my fastest lap today on lap 11 and it wasn't a new tyre so I'm pretty happy with how it's all gone."
