The FHO Racing BMW Motorrad team are geared up and ready for the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend (11-13 August), as Josh Brookes and Peter Hickman head to the fastest round of the calendar, Thruxton.
Passing the half-way mark in the 2023 season, the super-fast 2.3-mile Hampshire circuit is a popular track amongst riders and is known for its close racing, where tyre wear is critical due to the abrasive track surface.
Heading into the weekend Josh will be looking to reignite his championship challenge at one of his favourite tracks in the UK. Currently sitting fourth in the overall standings – four points shy of third place and 81 points adrift of the current championship leader – Josh has won two races this season aboard the BMW M 1000 RR, as well as collecting three second and two third-place finishes.
Also looking forward to the weekend is Josh’s teammate Peter, who is keen to build on his results from the last round at Brands Hatch. Thruxton has always been a good circuit for ‘Hicky’, who enjoys its fast and flowing nature.
Track action gets underway on Friday (11 August), with Superbike first free practice. Saturday (12 August) qualifying takes place with the first race of the weekend, with Race 2 and Race 3 taking place on Sunday (13 August). Click here for the full schedule.
Josh Brookes:
“I still feel a little wounded after the results of Brands Hatch, but once the weekend gets going at Thruxton that will be a thing of the past. Thruxton has always been one of my favourites in the British Championship, and even one of my favourites around the world, it’s a unique track so I am looking forward to it. My last two visits have been disappointing, the results didn’t come, and I didn’t enjoy the finishing positions, so it put a bit of a spoiler on a track that I’ve always had good feelings about. We’ll have to see how it goes this year, I’m on a new motorbike and with a new team where we have had success already this season, so we’ll see how it goes. I don’t want to go into the weekend having put any expectations on the event, I just want to arrive, see how it goes and what it has to offer.”
Peter Hickman:
“Thruxton has been a good circuit for me in the past, and I have enjoyed good results there even way back at my first ever race there in 2002. It’s got a fast and flowing nature, which always suits me, any track where you have to set corners up one or two corners before is always a good circuit for me. You really have to think about things and be super-accurate, it’s the fastest track in the UK with over a 110mph average for the Superbikes, so it’s super-fast and exactly what I love. We’ve had a bit of a break since the last round at Brands Hatch, which was a better round for us, so we just need to keep building on that and get back up to the front where we should be.”
Faye Ho – Team Principal:
“I’m excited for Thruxton this weekend, it’s a fast and flowing circuit which I know suits Pete and I’m looking forward to seeing how Josh gets on. The circuit is a favourite for both FHO riders and its somewhere they have both had good results at in the past. We started the year on a high with Josh winning two races and claiming five podium finishes, and now we have passed the half-way point in the season we’ll be looking to finish the year strong with just five rounds remaining.”
