It’s time for the eighth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship this Bank Holiday weekend (26-28 August), and it’s a special one for the FHO Racing BMW Motorrad team with Cadwell Park being the team’s home track.
The Lincolnshire circuit is located just a stone’s throw from the teams’ HQ in Louth and is the biggest and most exciting round on the BSB calendar, the circuit is also Peter Hickman’s local track, and one for Josh Brookes to showcase his style over the famous Cadwell Mountain.
The 2.18-mile circuit has been a happy hunting ground for Faye Ho’s squad with Hicky scoring two wins and a second place at home in the team’s debut season in 2021.
After a string of top ten finishes last time out at Thruxton for Hickman, he and his teammate Josh Brookes are hoping their BMW M 1000 RR machines can help power them back towards the sharp end of the field as the team prepares to party in the park.
Meanwhile Richard Cooper will be back in action in the ABK Beer 0% BMW Motorrad F 900 R Cup, where after six rounds of the series he’s leading the standings having won all six races to date.
Track action gets underway on Saturday (26 August) with Superbike first free practice. Sunday (27 August) sees the return of Superpole qualifying and the first race of the weekend, with Race 2 and Race 3 taking place on Bank Holiday Monday (28 August). Click here for the full weekend timetable.
Josh Brookes:
I’m hesitant to say anything because you know after Thruxton, which I had higher hopes for it turned out to be really bad weekend in the end. We had a quick test after Thruxton, which is hopefully going to pay dividends and we’ll be able to get close to the front again. The lap times weren’t as quick as I’d have liked them to be, but without having any other championship riders there it’s difficult to know exactly what the pace should be. This weekend we’re going to treat like other rounds, turn up and see how the bike performs, we’ll arrive with the highest level of motivation and preparation as we can, and hope that it’s favourable for us.
Peter Hickman:
I’m super excited to get to Cadwell Park, it’s a local one for me and I’ve won there in the past in 2021, winning two races and finished second in the other one. I’m looking forward to it, the team’s been working really hard behind the scenes, we’ve made some improvements since Thruxton and we’ve got some more things to try on the Friday evening test, so fingers crossed we’ve got a really good direction with the BMW. Obviously, we’ve not been in a great place the last few rounds, so hopefully we can show our true potential this weekend.
Faye Ho – Team Principal:
I’m so excited for this weekend, Cadwell Park is our home round and it’s the most exciting race on the calendar, the circuit is great, the racing is good and the atmosphere is fantastic. Every track we visit we receive such a good reception from the fans, but there is something special about Cadwell, perhaps as it’s our home round and Pete’s, the crowd just goes wild for FHO Racing. I’m looking forward to the weekend getting started, watching the racing, seeing how Pete and Josh get on, and meeting all the fans around the track. I hope everyone has a good weekend, we have good weather, and everyone enjoys the party in the park this Bank Holiday weekend.
